Habitat tracking for the conservation of huntable birds species

HABITRACK is a new EU-project that I will work on during the coming four years together with partners in France, Finland, Czech Republic and Northern Germany. It will include a large animal tracking effort in various countries of Europe, where more than 1000 individuals of 14 duck, goose, wader and dove species shall be equipped with GPS transmitters. All species are huntable, but have an uncertain conservation status, so that the EU requires support in their management. The data will be hosted on Movebank and analysed to provide parameters for population dynamics, habitat needs and demographics modelling. Further topics will be occurrence modelling, carry-over effects on breeding success and migratory connectivity, as all the considered species are migratory. I will give a short introduction to the goals of the project and look forward to discussing plans and ideas.
