New insights into the nutrient balancing of monkeys and apes
Wild primates are faced with habitats that are seasonally and spatially heterogenous in types and amount of potential foods. Most primates prefer fruit and increase consumption of leaves when fruit is scarce. These dietary shifts have nutritional consequences, and primates must balance nutrients to maintain good health. From studies of apes and monkeys over a decade, I will present current research on nutrient balancing of monkeys and apes in the rainforests of Uganda as they move across a changing nutritional landscape. I explore models for assessing the extent of generalism and specialism on a nutritional level. Finally I will discuss future directions in the field of wildlife nutritional ecology.
The MPI-AB Seminar Series is open to members of MPI and Uni Konstanz. The zoom link is published each week in the MPI-AB newsletter.
