The  Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior, together with the Department of Biology at the University of Konstanz announce the launch of the International Max Planck Research School for Quantitative Behaviour, Ecology and Evolution from lab to field (IMPRS-QBEE) for 2022. The IMPRS-QBEE is a structured graduate program for outstanding doctoral candidates from around the world whose research interests lie within the fields of animal behaviour, ecology, evolution, physiology and neurobiology and are seeking a starting platform with a stimulating and competitive environment to give their careers a boost.

Doctoral program:

This competitive doctoral program provides its fellows with an excellent starting platform for a successful career in the fields of animal behaviour, ecology, evolution, physiology, and neurobiology.

Our faculty comprises more than 30 leading researchers from the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior and the Department of Biology at the University of Konstanz; our current 54 Doctoral students from the former IMPRS for Organismal Biology program come from 37 different countries worldwide, displaying our international working environment. We will continue to support them through to their graduation.

In addition to their own research, the IMPRS-QBEE doctoral student has the chance to attend laboratory courses and workshops in specific research skills and transferable skills such as data management, summer schools and/or scientific and grant proposal writing, relevant to their needs. Annual IMPRS retreats provide the platform for an intense scientific exchange, an opportunity for networking and social interaction in combination with a workshop of alternative topics each year, such as Career Dveleopment in- and outside of academia, Research Ethics and Mental Health issues.

Active participation is expected in each individual research group's weekly seminares as well as during those provided during the semester at the hosting institutes (MPI-AB and Uni KN). Attendance is expected during Keynote speaker talks by invited scientist during our annual MPI-AB institut symposium, as well as to participate at an international conference, herewith complementing the individually tailored curriculum. Program details will be added in the coming weeks.

In general, the doctorate should be completed within three to four years. The official teaching language is English. Furthemore German language classes are offered to our IMPRS fellows from abroad.

Location: Konstanz is a vibrant small city located on the border between Germany and Switzerland, on the shores of the Bodensee (Lake Constance). It is easy to get out into the beautiful German and Swiss countryside and the Alps, as well as to neighboring Zurich and Munich.
