Works and Laboratory Safety at the Department of Collective Behavior
Ensuring a safe and compliant working environment is fundamental to maintaining the integrity and well-being of all staff and research operations. This talk will provide an overview of essential safety principles and recent updates to the department’s risk assessment. The session will address key aspects of workplace, bio-, and laser safety, including the safe operation of aquatic animal facilities, autoclaves, and S1 laboratories for microbiological and animal experiments. Specific focus will be given to handling class IV lasers, managing biological and allergenic risks (e.g. during locust work), and implementing preventive measures to avoid accidents and health hazards. The talk will also outline emergency procedures, reporting responsibilities, and the roles of designated safety officers. This yearly briefing is relevant for all staff and students working in or around the experimental and laboratory areas of the ZT building and aims to strengthen a shared culture of safety awareness and responsibility.
